App Details
Developer: Motorola Solutions
Version: 3.0.1
Updated: January 8th, 2016
Size: 5.88MB
Device Compatibility: LEX L10 and Android BYOD
Requires Android: 4.1 and up
Release Notes
- Darker, more modern screens thereby enhancing battery life.
- The general flow of the application is now Talk Group-centric where the user selects a Talk Group from the Home/GROUPS screen and then communicates within that Talk Group via either group calls or private calls to any of the Talk Group members who are online.
- The default sign in communication is secure (i.e., via https). The app will attempt once with https, then once with http. If neither attempt is successful, the Sign In Failure error message will be displayed, indicating the user should contact his administrator.
- Introduces the private call overlay providing clear indication of incoming private calls regardless of your location within the app when a private call is received.
- Eliminates potential for concurrent actions that previously resulted in bad/confusing app states. Therefore, simultaneously pressing two or more buttons is no longer recognized – one action will always be given precedence.
- Clear indication of when the app disconnects due to loss of network connectivity. Users will see a connecting overlay during a reconnect as well as event entries in RECENTS and all FEED screens with the corresponding time range.
- For WAVE 5000 server versions 5.8.1 or newer, provides dynamic updates executed on the WAVE server to users when Talk Groups are added, removed or names modified. (Dynamic updates are not transmitted to mobile clients running on WAVE servers prior to version 5.8.1.)
- Supports most wired headsets with PTT capability. As many manufacturers implement PTT on/off events differently, we have tried to ensure/verify compatibility with some of the most popular headsets. We recommend that users first test headsets in a controlled, non-critical environment to orient themselves with the WAVE Mobile Communicator and device interactions.
- Supports popular Bluetooth Low Energy PTT buttons: Savox, TAM Milicom, Klein. Please see the Headset Compatibility Matrix for details.
Cautions
- Note that statements of “support” are for compatibility and are not indications of accessory reliability as changes are constantly being made by their manufacturers. In addition, changes by Google and Apple to the Android and iOS operating systems can have significant impact to accessory compatibility and functionality. Please contact the WAVE Mobile Product Owner if you have questions or concerns on a specific accessory or would like additional feedback on our findings.
- It is not recommended to run WAVE Mobile Communicator with any other audio app as they will both try to take control of the mic and/or speaker, potentially causing loss of audio for the WAVE app.
- Use of the WAVE app on a device with Bluetooth enabled while in a vehicle will have varying results based on the vehicle, mobile device and version of the device’s operating system.
- While mobile device manufacturers are constantly updating Bluetooth capabilities within their operating systems, vehicle manufacturers are typically 3-4 years behind due to their production lifecycle. Furthermore, most vehicles are not capable of making corresponding updates once they have left the factory. Lastly, users may not experience the same results after updating their device’s OS.
Android Known Defects or Issues
- Samsung phones have a multi-touch feature that results in the PTT button sticking in transmission state (microphone open) and in error state (bonking) if more than just the top/tip of the thumb is used to press the PTT button. To avoid this issue, press the PTT button using the tip of the thumb and avoid allowing the side of the thumb to contact the screen. If the sticking occurs, tap the PTT button again or the app’s back button.
- Android does not have a 30-minute location sharing interval. This will be in a future release.
- Android app map controls do not have state changes implemented which would provide indication of whether or not “center on me”, “show all map pins” or neither are active. However, the buttons do perform their intended function when tapped.
- Copying text from a text event or text entry field on a Group FEED is not enabled. This will be in a future release..
- If a user is using a headset and chooses to play another audio app concurrently with WAVE, the headset will play the other audio app’s broadcast and not WAVE – especially if that audio app is a music app. We do not recommend that other audio apps be used concurrently with WAVE Mobile Communicator.
